Default What kinds of choices are there?

Choices may be beharioural - changing TV channel.
Choices may be metaphorical - changing paths.
Is it useful to think of some structual changes as choices. To see things from another person's perspective. To akncowledge and act on a new piece of information.
Is the point of much of David's work to direct attention to areas and to facilitate the person make conscious or unconscious choices to change?
Pointing at the most important aspect of the structure of the clien'ts experience and noticing if there is a change seems a useful metaphor to me as a facilitator. It also notes that it may be neither my or the client's conscious choice that makes the change, but we can invite the client's subconscious to see the essence of the experience and accept it or change it.

    Hello Brian,

You asked: "Is the point of much of David's work to direct attention to areas and to facilitate the person make conscious or unconscious choices to change?"

Maybe David invited choices in his earlier days, maybe not, but others who were there can answer. In the extensive time we worked together, I saw no evidence of him eliciting choices, except in the time-coded "and then what can happen?"

In my opinion, David's purpose was solely to navigate to reconnect the dissociated aspects back to the body. As such he directed attention, in his words "knowing the answer before asking the question".

However, nowadays CL is widely used in a range of ways and applications not anticipated by David. If you are interested in choices, then clients will arrive who have that particular sorting, due to the nature of our perfect universe.

    Happy New Year!!

    Steven
