Privacy and your email address
Why we need your email address?
When you register, you are required to specify a valid email address.
The reason cleanforum.com needs your email address is because all email from the board to you will be sent to the address you enter.
This includes:
any general announcements from the administrators,
automatic notification that a particular topic has had a reply posted to it,
mail from anyone who clicks the email link on your profile or a message you have posted.
The advantage of this is that you do not have to show your email address in your posts. This means that they are not visible to automatic 'robot' programs that travel the internet, trawling for email addresses that then get used for SPAM.
We at cleanforum.com do not carry out or condone SPAM or other unsolicited forms of contact for commercial purposes. We do not give, sell or otherwise distribute your email address to 3rd parties, except as required to under the laws of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (e.g. to the local police constabulary, which doesn't seem terribly likely at cleanforum.com since we are all SO squeaky clean...).
Here is when and why you will get email from us:
1. When you register, we will send you an email to confirm your registration details and password. This email will also contain an activation link which you will need to click on before you may log in to the board - this is to verify that the e-mail address is correct.
We will also email you (with a similar link included) to send a new password should you forget your current one.
2. cleanforum.com will automatically send ONE email to notify you that a reply has come in to a message that you left, or that someone has just contributed to a particular topic that you are 'watching'.
This means that you can post a message and not have to keep logging in to see whether anyone has responded.
In your Profile, you can choose to turn this feature on or off by default. You can also turn it on or off for each individual Topic by clicking the "...watching" link near the bottom of the page.
The board only sends ONE email notification of this kind between your visits to the discussion board, to minimise the amount of email you receive (if, say you are watching several busy topics). Check your other topics after you have read the one you received a link to.
3. The forum administrator or a moderator may from time to time send a message to all users, advising them of changes to the site or of other site-related information.
