    Default Four metaphors a minute

Hi, can anyone give me a reference for the often-quoted research that concluded we use around four metaphors a minute in conversation, please?

  2. Default 4M/min

Judy, This is the reference on Penny & James' site http://www.cleanlanguage.co.uk/LearningMetaphors.html - Susan R Robinson, Birkbeck College, University of London, 11 November 2000.

I've tried searching for the original, but to no avail.

Just found a reference that suggests six metpahors a minute in ordinary spoken language!
