It is with immense sadness that we learned of the sudden death of David
Grove…
« David, we have had the privilege of meeting you for the first time in May 2003 and we found you to be brilliant, intelligent, and passionate about your discoveries and about research in general.
You came with an amazing machine, and you settled for a time, here at La Bouvetière. The way you spoke filled us with curiosity, astonishment, and energy: your personality did the rest.
And you came back every year. And you came this last summer, and, for a longer time, last autumn. You had decided to support our small Clean Language community : you decided to film and interview us.
And so it was like a celebration, just like children on a rainy day when someone says « let’s dress up ! » and things start bubbling.
We said “Yes”- and indeed we were happy!
And so we were content, one idea led to another, each experience leading to the next one- and we certainly weren’t tired any more. New ideas arrived effortlessly from a limitless source, and creative discussion was endless.
After that we gave you a special introduction to Paris: you were invited in, appreciated, embraced. And your delight made us happy. You looked great- and you said “[I think] I’m cured now !”… We were waiting for you, because we knew you would return.
And then, like an earthquake came the terrible news. No longer would you return to France like before, or to anywhere else. You have gone, and we weep.
The joy of those times we had will never be forgotten. Nor shall we forget that special way you had of being immediately in contact with what was most secret and intimate in us, with an absolutely exceptional perspicacity and an unusual kindness. Your giggles have dropped many seeds in our hearts.
You loved France, and France adored you, admired you and (we sincerely hope!) honoured you.
We feel this, and know it to be true because you were indeed so happy here with us, as we were with you.
David, we noticed that for you the stuff of daily life on this planet was not always easy for you, and that ordinary things outside your field could present you with extraordinary challenges. But your genius illuminated us and others with a bright flame, thanks to your skill, professional concern and deep generosity.
It was clear to you that you had to be here : you obeyed that imperative, and stayed for a while. What happened then, within this safe and supportive space, was that your determination and intellectual clairvoyance knew no boundaries in the service of “emergence”.
Well, David, you always wanted to cross known boundaries, and you’ve gone beyond all of those, now.
Rest in peace..
With all our love,
from members of the French community and its heart, Jennifer de Gandt.
