My first encounter with 'clean' was at an NLP conference at Regents Park with Penny & James (1997?) - I was immediately hooked and booked a Personal Journey with David at Georgina’s in the Lake District (1998). He was awesome and not always clean!!! It was a shock and it took Penny & James' patient training and coaching for me to begin to appreciate the mastery of the man. A few years later I started the West Country practise group because I began to realise the dedication required to aspire to anything like his skill level.

I could add to the statements of how David has created a discipline which now has a complete life of its own and will remain a legacy for him. I could also add that he would have won a Gold Medal at mismatching and could be difficult to work with. And he had a great big heart and generously shared his work with anyone who was genuinely interested.

I will briefly recount one experience I had with David which was when he was based at Carole Wilson’s house in London and he wanted to create a Clean Space: the egg. We went around a great deal of South-West London together (in that Volvo) to identify suitable materials and a method to create that conceptual space. As he drove along the M25 he was wandering between lanes as he was sketching for me and explaining his latest ideas! It was then entertaining to hear him explain to a haberdasher what he wanted and why. Then leaving the shop with about 30m of stretch lycra and many tens of suspender top fasteners. He then took me to the best Charity shops “to buy quality clothing at ridiculous prices” and explained that he always came here with an empty suitcase. I still have a jacket from that outing. We then found a very large second-hand tent within which to suspend this lycra ‘egg’. We worked tirelessly till about 11pm in mid- summer when it was completed. The effect was brilliant: facilitating voices came from beyond a very indistinct and non-descript boundary. I have put this picture on the web but it is not everyone’s best angle! http://www.cleancoaching.co.uk/davidgrove

And there are many more stories than will be written at this forum because he was that kind of man: a rich life.

I want to add that david would turn up at CL trainings and practise groups, sometimes unanounced :-). His generosity in giving of his time and experience was inspiring.
