View Full Version : A Clean Record

Time is an asymmetrical dimension and the only way we know time passes is because things change. We do not know what was before and at the beginning, because it is beyond our perceptional horizon. But the laws of entropy dictate that even cycles have a singular start and do not go on forever: we can only delay time by creating order.

Our perception of time is distorted, we seldom have an absolute notion of time: that’s why clean questions are about sequence: ‘What happened (just) before?’, ‘What’s there now?’, ‘Then what happens?’

Neither do we know what’s in-inside our outside space, because we see by means of the electromagnetic force, which is limited to the three dimensions we know about: left/right, back/forth and up/down. So you need three pieces of information to specify a location: ‘Where(about)’s is […]?’.

If you want to go from A to B it seems that all you need to do is change location, but that takes time, so your goal (B) may have changed by the time you get there, so may yóu (A) have. And even if not, B may turn out not to be what you imagined it to be, so you may be disappointed or thrilled. But even if B satisfies your expectations, having arrived there, the context C from the point of view of B may look different to you (A at B), which may not be what you need.

So, sometimes, our spacetime doesn’t meet our needs and cannot solve our problems. But our brain is capable to imagine beyond the context of our daily lives and our personal goals. We can add other dimensions (D) and describe them by means of metaphor. Thus we ‘rise above’, ‘submerge’ or ‘turn aside’. When we ‘go back’ in time: we ‘cast our mind back’ to the spot of our youth, let ‘bygones be bygones’, ‘wipe the slate of our memory clean’, so we can start the new year with a clean record.

So 'where'-'ever' you are, east or west from me, ahead in time or legging behind: HAPPY NEWYEAR!
