"However, if we discover a complete theory, it should in time be understandable by everyone, not by a few scientists. Then we shall all, philosophers, scientists and just ordinary people, be able to take part in the discussion of the question of why it is that we and the universe exist. If we find the answer to that, it would be the ultimate triumph of human reason - for then we should know the mind of God." Stephen Hawking.

Wendy and I were discussing why Clean was so important to each of us, and both found this quote very relevant.

What do you think?

It seems to me that the question of why we and the universe exist, is the expression of a human need to understand the things that are around us and that God is a metaphor for the need to attribute the things that happen to us to a source outside of us.

Just recently David asked me "What's outside the universe?" and I told him that outside the ceiling of the planetarium in Bristol there was the British countryside with its beautiful autumn colours and its fresh air I could breath from.
