Hi Hina, welcome to the forum.

The obvious place to learn is on Wendy Sullivan's modular courses - details on www.smallchangecompany.com (http://www.smallchangecompany.com). The next beginners' course, Module 1 and 2, is on 26 - 29 September.

If you haven't actually heard Clean Language in use, you might also want to sign up for one of her free teleclasses, too.

Whereabouts in the world are you? If you're in or near London, I'm doing a taster session on 5 September which should be fun. Again, details are on www.smallchangecompany.com (http://www.smallchangecompany.com)

I'm curious - how did you first come across Clean Language and this forum?

Hi Hina, I'm not a therapist, so I'm afraid I can't answer detailed questions about how Clean Language is used in therapeutic situations. I prefer to use it in normal conversations.

What I know is that Clean is really, really simple in its structure. And mostly, it seems you can trust the process to do the work while keeping you and your conversational partner safe.

Neither the intelligence nor educational level of either party seems particularly relevant to the result.

You have the questions themselves, presumably, from www.cleanlanguage.co.uk (http://www.cleanlanguage.co.uk)?

Ask them, slowly and individually, and listen to the answers. Allow your "client" to explore their stuff.

Ask more questions. Listen to the answers.

Ask more questions. Listen to the answers.

See where your curiosity takes you, and what happens next.

Have fun!

Incidentally, I've been looking at various "positive psychology" projects about increasing happiness. I'd like to hear more about the one you've discovered, if it's not too massively off topic?

Hi Hina, sorry I haven't been around for a while. As I said, I'm not a therapist, so I'm not qualified to answer technical questions about therapy, even if I thought it was a good idea to do so on a forum.

Does Phil's answer help? It seems pretty comprehensive to me.

Hi Hina

If you go to www.trainingattention.co.uk (http://www.trainingattention.co.uk) you will find a link to buy (for £30) a DVD in Clean Language and systemic modelling.

This DVD shows a group of people going through a 2 day introduction to Clean Language. It also provides a workbook and an explanation of all the exercises shown with the group, as well as an invitation to consider your own personal responses to the material.

My business partner, Caitlin Walker, made it last year and I was very impressed! People who I have sent it to, who I am working with but don't have time / resources for a full training have shifted their understanding greatly through watching it. I can tell the difference in their client work straight away.

Learning Clean is a little like learning a martial art, or yoga. It's a systemic, interrelated behaviour rather than a process or simple set of rules. You can only tell so much from reading about it. It's really best to experience it for yourself, and a DVD format will give you much better access to that - a little like a DVD on martial arts would better explain the
material than an article.

Enjoy!

Hi Hina,

The book "Metaphors in Mind" is really the introduction to clean language for someone who wishes to understand by studying written materials. It contains two transcripts that show the work in action for therapy, and it is written by the UK's longest-established experts in Clean Language, Penny Tompkins and James Lawley, details below from amazon:

# Language English
# ISBN-10: 0953875105
# ISBN-13: 978-0953875108

There are teleclasses which you can join, run by a number of trainers, and links to these can probably be found at www.cleanlanguage.co.uk

Maybe other people can recommend a local trainer to you. I will be delivering training in the Emergence work in Goa, India 7-14 January 2009 and at two further dates in January/February in your part of the world, and I can talk on "skype" which is like messenger and free - my skype username is "holigral".

Meanwhile, write down all your questions and we will collectively answer them as far as we can.

good luck, Steven

Hi Hina,

Penny Tompkins and James Lawley (www.cleanlanguage.co.uk (http://www.cleanlanguage.co.uk)) have also made a great DVD, called 'A strange and strong sensation'. It is an in depth experience of a clean language session. It shows the client's whole process and de-brief's it with you. I think that this would also be a great way of finding out more without having to come to the UK to do some training!
